In 2007 I was 24

I was doing well in my first job after graduation. It was in the sector I had trained for, with plenty of potential to grow within the organisation. I had fallen madly head over heels for a wonderful man. We had just bought our first house together. We adopted our first puppy together. We had just gotten married in a castle. Life was pretty fantastic.

Then I heard a phrase I had never heard before: Credit Crunch.

Then everything went tits up.

My husband was in the construction industry.

It’s 2014 and I am 31

I’ve just moved in to a shared flat with people I have never met before. I don’t have a husband any more. My puppy is somebody else’s puppy now. My house is the bank’s now.

I’m living in a new city. I’m starting my own business. I’m writing again. I’m saving to go backpacking in South East Asia.

All my dreams from before are broken, but I don’t mind so much. I suspect I’m dreaming better dreams now.
